XP554 - M. Baebius Q.f. Tampilus - moneyer (c. 137 BC), AR Denarius, 17mm - 3.78 gm., VF/VF, $65

Obverse: Head of Roma facing left, (TAMPIL) behind, X below chin.

Reverse: Apollo in quadriga, ROMA below; (M).BAEBI.Q.F in exergue.

Reference: Sear RCV #113, Crawford #236/1v, RSC Baebia 12.

Comments: Several unusual features on this nice Republican denarius. The uncommon left facing bust of ROMA, the first appearance of Apollo on a Roman denarius and the atypical reversing of the moneyer's name and ROMA above and below the exergual line.

XP555 - L. Trebanius - moneyer (c. 135 BC), AR Denarius, 19mm - 3.31 gr., VF/VF, $70

Obverse: Head of Roma facing right, X behind.

Reverse: Jupiter in quadriga right, holding thunderbolt, L TREBANI [TR and AN in ligature] below; (R)OMA in exergue.

Reference: Sear RCV #118, Crawford #241/1a, RSC Trebania 1.

Comments: A nicely detailed helmet of Roma on the obverse and a large flan give this coin character.

XP553 - M. Papirius Carbo - moneyer (c. 122 BC), AR Denarius, 17-19mm - 3.92 gr., aVF/aVF, $65

Obverse: Head of Roma facing right, X below chin, branch behind.

Reverse: Jupiter in quadriga right, holding thunderbolt, M CARB(O) below; ROMA in exergue.

Reference: Sear RCV #151, Crawford #276/1, RSC Papiria 6.

Comments: Nicely toned and with classic Republican denarius features, an excellent if you are looking for a Republican type coin.

XP552 - M. Tullius - moneyer (c. 120 BC), AR Denarius, 19-22mm - 3.85 gr., F+/F+, $62

Obverse: Head of Roma facing right, ROMA behind.

Reverse: Victory in quadriga right, holding palm, wreath above, X below; M.TVLLI in exergue.

Reference: Sear RCV #155, Crawford #280/1, RSC Tullia 1.

Comments: An unusual example of the denominational marking [X] appearing on the reverse of a Republican denarius. The wreath is also a seldom seen reverse feature for this period.

XP551 - M. Cipius M.f. - moneyer (c. 115-114 BC), AR Denarius, 17mm - 3.89 gr., VF/aVF, $62

Obverse: Head of Roma facing right, X behind, M CIPI M F before.

Reverse: Victory in quadriga right, holding palm, rudder below; (R)OMA in exergue.

Reference: Sear RCV #166, Crawford #289/1, RSC Cipia 1.

Comments: A nicer than average example of this typical Republican piece.
