XP449 - MAXENTIUS (As Augustus, AD 306-312), AE Follis - Aquileia, VF+/VF+, $145
Obverse: IMP MAXENTIVS P F AVG CONS II, bearded, right facing, laureate bust of Maxentius; in imperial mantle, holding eagle tipped sceptre in right hand.
Reverse: CONSERV VRB SVAE, Roma seated facing, head left, in a hexastyle temple, right hand holding globe, left holding sceptre; shield by side, knobs as acroteria; upward crescent in pediment; AQS in exergue.
Reference: RIC VI Aquileia #125 (Scarce), Unlisted in Sear, Unlisted in Van Meter.
Comments: A scarce dated, consular bust type struck in Aquileia January 309 AD. This nice coin has some very minor spots of surface porosity noted here for completeness. The obverse and reverse details are remarkable.

XP447 - MAXENTIUS (As Augustus, AD 306-312), AE Follis - Rome, VF+/VF+, $100
Obverse: IMP C MAXENTIVS P F AVG, bearded, right facing, laureate bust of Maxentius.
Reverse: CONSERV VRB SVAE, Roma seated facing, head left, in a hexastyle temple, right hand holding globe, left holding sceptre; shield by left side, knobs as acroteria; wreath in pediment; RET in exergue.
Reference: RIC VI Rome #258, Sear #3779v, Van Meter #18.
Comments: A nice detailed example of this classic architectural type coin. Many collectors study the variations exhibited in the laureate wreath ties behind the heads of the emperors of the Tetrarchy. This coin struck in the period 310-311 AD.

XP445 - MAXENTIUS (As Augustus, AD 306-312), AE Follis - Ostia, VF+/VF+, $100
Obverse: IMP C MAXENTIVS P F AVG, bearded, right facing, laureate bust of Maxentius.
Reverse: FIDES M-IL-IT-VM AVG N, Fides standing left holding standard in each hand; MOSTT in exergue.
Reference: RIC VI Ostia #45, Sear #3782v, Van Meter #20.
Comments: A nice type coin, well struck and centered on a full flan. Hint of silvering on the reverse. Another great coin from the Ostia mint near Rome from the period late 309 to October 312.

XP444 - MAXENTIUS (As Augustus, AD 306-312), AE Follis - Ostia, aVF/VF+, $100
Obverse: IMP C MAXENTIVS P F AVG, bearded, right facing, laureate bust of Maxentius.
Reverse: VICTORI-A A-ETERNA AVG N, Victory advancing left, holding wreath extended forward in right hand, palm upright in left; MOSTP in exergue.
Reference: RIC VI Ostia #54, Sear #3783v, Van Meter #22.
Comments: Much nicer than the RIC plate coin of this striking from the Ostia mint. Unusual to find these types with a full beaded reverse dot border. Obverse die seems to be a bit more worn but still well centered with full legend. Very slight double striking at the top of the reverse is seen around Victory's head.
